REMENA Workshop in Doha
This workshop was organized by the Research Ethics in the Middle East and North Africa (REMENA) in partnership with the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. The meeting took place at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, in Qatar, from January 27 to January 29, 2024.
The Doha workshop focused on sharing REMENA preliminary findings and tentative recommendations to universities, publishers and others who shape the research enterprise in the region with colleagues who work in other parts of the world, particularly Asia and Africa. The meeting also explored whether similar questions have generated different responses elsewhere and how the experience of researchers outside the Middle East and North Africa might help REMENA scholars refine, improve and enhance both the findings and the impact of this project. In addition to the closed workshop, the REMENA Project hosted a public lecture at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, so as to be sure its work is itself as widely disseminated as possible.
The event brought together scholars and experts from a wide range of organizations such as Columbia University, University of Edinburgh, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, University of Sheffield, Leiden University, University of California San Diego, University of Cambridge, Cornell University, Freie Universität Berlin, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, The Africa Institute, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Hamad bin Khalifa University, London School of Economics and Political Science, TrustAfrica, University Gaston Berger de Saint-Louis, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, and Integrated International.
